Once Halloween is over, I hate to throw away the beautiful pumpkins and gourds. They are just too lovely. Time to re-use and re-purpose – yes, this centerpiece is just the ticket for the recycler. Have your pumpkins gilded – gold, copper or silver – they are all lovely. Then, add them into your centerpiece for the Thanksgiving table. You’ll love them so much that they stay around through Christmas and New Years, too. Of course, come February you could paint them red and be ready for Valentine’s Day. Oh, no! That may be taking re-use just a little too far. I don’t think I can get used to the idea of Valentine pumpkin.

Carnations for the Centaur
Monday, November 8th, 2010Vivid ideas with pragmatic solutions. Blazing enthusiasm with unswerving determination. Also, naïve optimism with piercing insight. These are the paradoxical qualities of the Sagittarius. And the S. American carnations.
Originally cultivated in Egypt for over 2,000 years, these delicate albeit durable blooms have crowned the emperors of Rome and Greece. Today, they continue to be coveted for their frilly, ruffled appearance and long-lasting, clove-like fragrance. These posies personify indomitable spirit of the Sagittarius with light pastel shades of peach, pink and flesh tones, with an occasional detour to white, yellow, green, red and deep shades of purple and burgundy.
Discover this season myriad expressions of love and romance accentuated by the fiery and fearless persona of the Centaur.
Muted Autumn
Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010When I think of autumn, I think of yellow, red and orange – all the fiery hues of the season. Oh, how I love these! But, there is so much more to choose from. The dusty rose of sedum and muted hue of slate blue hydrangea combines with the antiqued ivory of Queen Anne’s lace to create a romantic autumn basket. This fall, you can choose… what color is your autumn season?

Rose Column
Friday, October 22nd, 2010We are always on the look out for the newest designs and most fabulous flower varieties to bring to the market place. The bronze-hued rose variety, Coffee Break is one of the best finds for the autumn season. They open into a full and luscious bloom with hundreds of petals. Just as it seems the rose could get no fuller, it blooms out just a little bit more. This long lasting rose is truly amazing. Order it by name – Coffee Break – you are going to love it! This rose column is a spectacular way to showcase beautiful roses. Twelve rose blossoms ring the top of the container capped by a crown of autumn berries. A dozen roses never looked so good.

Dahlias
Friday, October 15th, 2010Dahlias are at their peak of beauty. Available in virtually every color of the rainbow – red, yellow, orange, purple, pink and a vast array of bi-colors as well – you won’t be able to choose just one. Did you know? They will last longer if you “cook” their stems? Odd as it sounds, dahlias love a hot water bath. Just pour about 1” of boiling water in a heat safe vase, cut 2” from the flower stem and place the dahlias in the vase. Let them sit until the water cools to room temperature and then, drop them in your favorite vase. Of course, we take care of it for you – there is no need to do it twice. Once is just fine for these vibrant beauties.
Eggplant
Monday, October 11th, 2010When I think of autumn flowers, my mind turns to the classic fire colors of red, orange and yellow. But, there is so much more! Autumn can be purple, too. The intense aubergine of eggplant is the inspiration for this luxurious centerpiece. Yes, look closely, that is a real eggplant you see! Add roses, stock, gerbera daisies and nigella and you have a lovely autumn accent for your table.
Sugar and Spice
Thursday, October 7th, 2010Let alone nice… it’s breathtakingly gorgeous!
At Flora2000, we take floral style very seriously. And it is our credo to keep you, our valued readers, updated with the absolute latest in floral fashion. The most recent addition to our style guide includes bits of Indian spice in floral arrangements. The resultant sweet-spicy aroma will very nearly take your breath away!
In ‘Home’, we have used two fragrant cinnamon sticks to complement the bright yellow chrysanthemums and Asiatic lilies. Adorned with Anne Black orchids, this arrangement represents the unmatched comfort of lying down snugly in front of a fireplace at the home you grew up in. Close your eyes and inhale the spicy aroma to get immersed in the sweetest dreams.
‘Cinammon Tree’ holds the allure of pleasant remembrances. Stately orchids, carnations and lisianthus hover delicately over a makeshift container made of cinnamon sticks. The distinct fragrance of woodsy cinnamon and the saccharine one of the pristine blooms is guaranteed to inspire old-school nostalgia.
An interesting page from history cites that Indian spices were such sought-after commodities that their trade with Europe led to its Age of Discovery. You, too, may use a variety of Indian spices, including red chilly peppers, cloves, cardamom and more, to reveal your passion for floral embellishment. Try it – this creative and enjoyable leisure activity can be highly addictive!

It is getting easier than ever to add a bit of color (and spice) to your dinner table. You are sure to find organic flowers that are edible as well as beautiful. Nasturtiums, cornflower, marigolds and roses are just a few. Sprinkle them on a salad or add a decorative accent to your dessert – best of all, they don’t add a lot of calories!

I have no garden in the city. Thank goodness Flora2000 has fabulous garden flowers to share; lavender, purple and blue – all my favorites in a casual summertime bouquet. Best of all, I don’t have to weed and water the garden to enjoy the bountiful harvest.
Summer Green Cube
Friday, September 10th, 2010It’s white clothing season! That goes for flowers too. Nothing looks cleaner, crisper or more summery than summer white flowers set in a bright kiwi green cube. Dress it up by adding a little pineapple mint foliage – love it! It looks great, smells wonderful and the cooling colors will quickly lower the temperature… even if it’s just in your mind.
Heirloom Florals
Wednesday, September 8th, 2010Grandma’s exquisite pearl necklace. Mom’s lovely wedding dress. An ancestral, solid gold timepiece. These treasures are priceless, both in vintage value and in the memories they inspire. Flora2000’s David Beahm New York collection combines contemporary floral designs with timeless containers from the world renowned design houses of Waterford, Mark Blackwell and Jonathan Adler to create gifts that shall last a lifetime.
Whether it’s on a Madison Avenue window-sill or at posh, Los Angeles soiree, designer Marc Blackwell always brings his unique sensibility to everything he touches. Now, his chic, gleaming gold pieces adorn David’s floral creations. ‘Lyle’ – David’s tour de force, is arranged in a 24 carat gold cow creamer!
Waterford is a renowned name in some of the world’s most prestigious homes and buildings, spanning Westminster Abbey and Australia’s Houses of Parliament. Its classic Lismore pattern vase gushes with ‘Eva’, a lively bouquet of David’s favorite roses. With its time-honored tradition of quality and beauty, Waterford perfectly complements David’s floral labors of love.
Jonathan Adler’s stunning creations adorn the homes of America’s upper crust. He has designed breathtaking, contemporary pottery, home furniture, tabletop accessories and more. For Flora2000, Jonathan Adler has conceptualized unique flower holders, each a work of art in its own right. His snazzy, oblique vase plays host to graceful, miniature calla lilies in David’s ‘Mari’.
Flora2000’s DBNY collection is a seamless blend of vintage elegance and cutting-edge fashion. Going beyond floral displays, these design luminaries have collaborated to fashion timeless classics which can be cherished for generations to come.
